LWS 3 – On Your Marks…Get Set….. Traffic
Hope you are all well, today is the installment update as to what has been happening and how I have been progress with Sally’s – “Learn with Sally” coaching program. Well as the title suggest, the next module was about Traffic, but it wasn’t about any old traffic either or as you may or may not know, you see, traffic is essential in any business, regardless be it offline or online. Now for some, you may be wondering … erm.. traffic… isn’t it supposed to be related to cars, trucks, bikes etc… and that sometime one get due to some unforeseen delays ahead?
Actually, traffic, as referred in the online context, although similar in a way that it’s about many of something going somewhere or nowhere, is actually referring to people and if we really want to go into the complexity i.e. visitors visiting your website now, where they came from, where they leave and what they do during the parts in between, let’s just that in the old early days of the internet, due to lack of competition and early excitment, they use to a saying of
“If you build it, they will come”.
Unfortunately, modern day now dictates something completley in that today, you can build it i.e. a blog or a website, but you will now to also have to drive the traffic to your blog or website, otherwise, your site will simply sit there on your hosting quietly minding it’s own business, desperately waiting for Google, Yahoo or some other search engine to find it amongst the entire web, I guess you could compare it similarly to
“finding a needle in the haystack
Anyway, we didn’t go into depth or much about Traffic, instead Sally introduced us to the main traffic sites that we would be setting up accounts with, an overview of why the site was important and how we would utilise them effectively. The main focus of the webinar was however on about time management advice, and ways to increase productivity with the highlight quote of the webinar which I really loved was:
“Is this what I should be spending time on right now to tak my business forward?”
Which meant that whenever you do something online, be that checking email, browsing youtube, talking to friends on FB, playing games etc…, then it’s probably best to ask yourelf the above question because if the task has no value in helping to move your business forward then it’s probably worth not doing or doing less off, as
“Time = Money”
Ofcouse I don’t want you to be barking up the wrong tree with why time = money and saying that it’s not right, but what I want to say is that for everybit of time you lose doing or conducting task that has of no great or signifcant value, then it affects your potential earning capability i.e. if you check your emails all the time, then you aren’t going to be productivity hence you won’t be moving your business forward, thus you delay the process of making a steady income and enjoy living the dream sooner.
So how can you aid the process of increasing your own productivty levels?
Well you could:
- Check your emails less often
- Have a system in place i.e. a set routine
- Create a to do list each night before bed for tommorrow morning
- Allocated a certain amount of time for each task, and buy a timer to time yourself. Should you find your self going over on time, then you stop, move onto the next task and comeback to it later.
- to stop being a perfectionist and wasting time perfecting a blog post, or revising it even the blog post has been published
- or for the fancy, even outsource task you hate or are time consuming to others who love it.
Next, this was followed by a discussion on branding, which then move onto explanations various social sites such as twitter, linked in, google +., facebook and wisetamp plugin, how they were ranked, why it was good for us to set up these accounts and why it would help us build our online relationship with other. Let’s just say this module was all about setting up our traffic foundation and time management.
Overall it was a great webinar and although I had to watch the replay and not live, that was more than fine by me.
Until next time, speak soon
