M2U2 – Module 2 Update 2

by nigelyip on December 4, 2008

Hello all,

Apologies about the delays for the update of Module 2 which I promised to do last night. I was overwhelmed with technical issues last night in regards to using Hostgator. I lost focus becuase things went from bad to worse and lost 1.5 hours according to my did sheet.

Firstly, I don’t use Hostgator for any of my currents sites and so I thought: since Alex mentioned it in his wonderful helpful training tutorial videos, and everyone was switching to them as well, I too would take the plunge and sign up for a HostGator Baby Account.

UH UH – Not for me! Why? When I signed up, I typed my newly registered domain wrongly by adding an ‘s’ in it when there wasn’s suppose to be (my fault really for not checking) and secondly, I didn’t recieve my invoice and confirmation details from them in regards to me signing up with them. I emailed them and waited and waited for an hour and I didn’t get a response and so I thought ‘Live Chat’. So I went back to the wesbite, started ‘Live Chat’ up and finally got though to them and the issues got sorted out within 5 minutes which I thought “okay, problems at first but at least they got good support and staff who know what they are talking about”

However upon entering the control panel, it was like where do I find the nameservers, domain or hosting addresses, ftp address etc… which I need to get my domain to forward to this hosting account?? I spent pretty much a solid 30 minutes looking everywhere. I eventually gave up, went back to my old hosting company, got a new hosting account with them and away I went.

In the same amount of time it took me to resolve the technical issues with Hostgator, I manage to get all my site set up, loaded up on to my new hosting account with my old hosting company, and even found some time to test both AWeber and PayPal. Now I just have to start promoting it and getting lots of traffic to it.

I guess what I have Iearnt from this experience and the moral of the post is to: stick with what you know best or always use. If you unfamiliar with anything, just either Ask, Ask and Ask or outsource, outsource, Outsource.

This is another reason why people like Alex, our “O’great mentor ” is so highly successful and taught us that key fundamental principle and the importance of outsourcing in the latter part of the module webinar. There is no point wasting time on something you can’t do when you could be doing something else, and it’s better to get the correct people for the correct job.

Hi Nigel,

I use hostgator also and have found them to be very good so it’s a shame you had such a frustrating time.

I don’t register my domain names with them so have never looked for dns settings in cpanel.

Most people seem to keep the domains and hosting seperate. I suppose it makes sense. I was using Godaddy but have heard they can be quick to shut down a domain if there are any problems with spam etc. So from now on I’m going with namecheap.

Who are you using for hosting now?

btw you asked on Gary’s blog about which domain to enter into the ebook. You want to put your blog address in there.

I asked Alex for the source file for the ebook so I could put a link back to the upsell for those that didn’t take the offer 1st time round. He sent me that this morning, I’m guessing it will be made available in the members area but if you want it let me know.

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for dropping by, I’m just about the change rebrand it again.

The hosting company I use are xtreemhost.com – I;m currently using the free packages which is good, 20gb monthly bandwidth and 800mb storage space. They have the offer of upgrading too which I will probably do soon when traffic increases but I doubt I will have enough traffic at the moment who will consume all the monthly 20gb bandwidth allowance.

As for domains names, I went with cheap-domain registration, I have an account with them which I have registered numerous names with them in the past, so it made no sense for me to choose another company. Plus they have private registration and domain masking which I like to use and domain forwarding it exceptionally straight forward.

Once again, thanks for popping by and helping out.
All the best
Nigel!

Hi mate,

Just ready your comment on blog. Was going to put some wordpress stuff together but what with profit pulling platforms and blogrolls by the time I get round to it I’m sure everyone will be set :) There really is not enough hours in the day. The sooner I get into outsourcing the better!

Nothing back from mandy yet but when she does i will give you a shout if ok? If we both work on it we can can get her back online asap.

Cheers
Mark

Hello Mark

Its like using Msn here lol with the messages we’re exchanging lol. I totally agree with you being not enough hours in a day to get so much stuff done. Although I do have to say, since using that focus methods that Alex has taught us in module, everyone has been really productive.

Anyway, I’m sure Mandy will be delighted to see that we’re both ready to help her when she emails back- whenever that maybe. Just give me a bell and I’ll definately pop round as soon as I can to lend you a hand and get her back up and running.

Speak to you soon
Nigel
